Maybe this photo resolves the American Crow/Northwestern Crow conundrum, once and for all:

I suspect that any Pledge of Allegiance here is to Corvid Nation.

Check out my post Crows on Cairns for a short discussion about what really constitutes “American” or “Northwestern” when it comes to corvids.

Photographed at the Ballard Locks with the Olympus OM-D E-M5 and Lumix 100-300mm lens

And, finally … an interesting take on the Gershwin inspiration for this post title:

I love that image Ingrid, I might be (am) anthropomorphizing but I can almost hear the Star Spangled Banner in my head looking at the Crow because it looks like it is belting out that song!

You know how misguided I am in not shying away from some of those characterizations myself. I was originally going to call this photo, “I pledge allegiance to … Corvid Nation” which I instead incorporated in the text. Similar wavelength.

A great take on Gershwin’s “American in Paris”, wonderful allegories; Gene Kelly dressed in black(!), simply brilliant!
