Bees and Their Fennel

It never fails that fennel is the best medium for my bee photography — even if it does render consistently yellow backdrops for my bee images.

I thought my mate Hugh was the ultimate sucker for the taste of wild fennel sprigs. But it’s honeybees who find the plant enough of an attractant that they forsake all sensibility … and let my macro lens come within centimeters of their foraging.

** All of the shots except #1 were taken at UC Berkeley Botanical Garden. Shot #1 was snapped at the Berkeley Marina, in a forest of fennel.
